If it's a small motor with part of a thin-film circuit attached to it, some (very) small bits of grey plastic and a couple of cogs check the laser assembly. I have had exactly the same thing happen last week, with the same player model. It's not from the drawer, the player shows E0 because it senses the laser assembly is not moving and won't operate the transport motors. You won't be able to open the main drawer manually either so don't try to force it. I'll be posting a Restoration Thread in the next few days so keep an eye out. DON'T lose any of the bits though. I took photos of the parts so you will be able to see how it goes together. That describes exactly what I can see here. I recovered what parts I could find moving around the inside of the machine and have them taped to the casing in a cuisinart double sandwich maker bag so I think I have them all. Could you check if you have all the necessary parts to make the complete assembly as shown in the pictures below? It is likely the cog spindles may have escaped via a hole in the player's casing, in which case something will need to be made to replace it with. Mine was in the packaging the sender had wrapped the machine in!. I will be in the Manchester area tomorrow (Saturday) and will be happy to have a look at it assuming you have all the parts. If a spindle is missing then it may be possible to post the remaining parts and laser assembly, I could fix it and test in my machine. Could you PM me your details if this would suit your schedule?. You seem to be missing the spindles onto which the cogs fit. Anybody with a metalworking lathe (Local engineering firm? Friendly CDT teacher?) ought to be able to make you a couple of replacements — just show them the parts you have. The worm wheel on the motor turns the larger part of one of the cogs, the smaller part of which then turns the larger part of the other. another member of the forum has had a look at the machine for me. The spindles for the cogs were retrieved from within the machine. The plastic housing for the cogs was repaired with super glue and attached to the laser assembly. The laser assembly was then placed back into the machine. It moved around the tracks and the draw now opens. Unfortunately I didnt have a disc to hand to check it worked. Upon getting home I tested it with a disc. It played the disc on side A but was very loud. When I tried side B it wouldnt work. When i removed the disc I checked it and now has circular marks on it. I have also just bought one of these old players, and thanks to your posts was able to fix a problem *exactly* the same as yours! Many thanks for that. Supply chain tipsters inform us that the mass scale production of the 55 inch glass free 4K2K 3D TV sets from toshiba tv is underway. AUO is the firm that would be supplying the display panels and that they have started supplying the same. Toshiba could have gone for manufacturing the LCD panels on their own but have opted to go for outsourcing this part to AUO. Both have announced the date of launch of the set to somewhere in this quarter itself. Last November we had the set in limited edition available in Japan. It came under the label of 55X3 then, fitted with a panel that had 3850 x 2160 pixel resolution. The panel used 240 zone intelligent backlighting technology but the screen itself was only Quad Full High Definition. For providing multiple viewers functionality, Toshiba uses a lenticular sheet that runs across the panel as well as a face tracking system. Nine users can now view the 3D effect simultaneously. However, the one feature that is quite interesting in this set is its 4k2k resolution factor. There are projectors with high detail specifications available, but a TV set with 4k2k resolution is still a rarity. The 55X3 was available in Japan at a price of $10,000 approximately. Price of the commercial model when it is available in the North American market, has not yet been confirmed by Toshiba. Toshiba is updating their LED TV line with a few improvements. But what really got everyone's attention at CES 2012 was the announcement of an LED backlit 4K display that will provide a glasses-free 3D experience. And it will be on sale soon!. Due to start shipping in quarter one of 2012 (which is, like, now), the yet-unnamed 55" display will set you back a cool $10,000 or so (estimated price). While it is technically a clone (albeit with different cosmetics) of displays already released in Germany and Japan, the big announcement was the glasses-free 3D. The way it works is via a small camera in the base which tracks your head placement. If you start to move out of the 3D sweet spot, it cues you on where to sit. It is said that the display can be used by up to nine people but that four is the optimal number. We're wondering if those nine would have to be really good friends that don't mind sitting on each others' laps. While there isn't much outside of computer demos available for a 4k display, it is good to see one finally shipping. And frankly, we remember when plasma displays came out and $10k for one of them would have been a steal. On to the rest of Toshiba's TV announcements. They are updating their line of LED TVs with three primary improvements. First, they are adding a new Dynamic Picture Mode to their standard viewing mode options. This new mode maximizes picture contrast, color, and sharpness. This is sure to be the mode the Best Buy guys immediately switch on and we immediately switch off when we get it home. Audyssey announced a little while ago that they were getting into TVs. Now, Toshiba is adding Audyssey's Sound Enhancement to all of their new LED LCDs. Audyssey features include their ABX solution to boost the bass from speakers usually too small to produce decent bass. They are also adding an EQ function. According to Audyssey, the EQ function is designed to give manufacturers the ability to tune their speakers before they leave the factory. Since display speakers are notoriously bad, any EQing would be welcome. It may be a stopgap measure at best for a true Audioholic, but it's better than nothing. Lastly, Toshiba is upgrading their LED TV line's aesthetics. The new Aero Family Design features a silver wing along the bottom of the display as well as a thin bezel. While not as thin as LG's new 1mm bezel displays, the new line from Toshiba looks to fit in well among the other thin, black displays at your local big box store. The new LED TVs are shipping in March and April (see below for specifics) with the specific prices yet to be announced. While the 55", 4K, glasses-free 3D, back lit LED display stole the show, Toshiba is looking to catch the attention of those without $10,000 burning a hole in their pocket with their new LED lineup. The edge lit displays should impress with their thin profile, the back lit LED with its deep blacks, and the new Aero Family aesthetics and Audyssey Sound Enhancement features should give consumers reason enough to give Toshiba another look. This is a big deal from a company that, three years ago, all but said they would forego focusing on flat TVs and simply concentrate on quality. Now you can apparently have both. While none of the features of the LED line up are all that spectacular (120Hz, no 3D, etc.), if the prices are right, they may be big sellers. We'll have a wait a few months to find out.
